Boreal Forest Biome

This is my current submission for the Spoonflower Design Challenge (Forest Biomes) celebrating their commitment to sustainability and their wallpaper certification from the Forest Stewardship Council.

In keeping with the Scandinavian Folk Art style, which I’ve been eager to try, I chose the Boreal (Taiga) Forest Biome. Boreal forests span 8 countries around the subarctic, and is the world’s largest forest biome. A biome is a specific geographical location which contains ecosystems, but is not an ecosystem itself.

Because of freezing weather 6-8 months of the year, Boreal Forests are populated mainly with coniferous trees and animals that can survive in the harshest of climates.

Though moderate amounts of rain fall, this region has the more surface fresh water than any other biome.

I’ve added some detail shots of the final pattern. The spin off design, A Scurry of Squirrels, is part of my Boreal Forest Biomes collection on Spoonflower. Also included above is a variation on the original pattern and Mama & Baby Bears, which I’m working on now. Check back on this collection for more complementary patterns to accompany the hero design.
